ALORA EVENTSby shanel
For visitors to Cape Town

Somewhere in your trip, there's one evening you'll talk about for years.

The sun dropping into the Atlantic behind the Twelve Apostles. Candlelight on a villa terrace. A question you've carried across an ocean. You're here for ten days. We make sure one of them is unforgettable, and you don't lift a finger.

Why Cape Town, why now

The city does half the work

Few places on earth put a mountain, two oceans, vineyards and a beach cove inside one golden hour. Summer sunsets here run close to eight in the evening, long enough for a slow walk down to the sand, a glass on the terrace, a question. The light goes copper, then rose, then the whole Atlantic turns silver. People fly twelve hours for that light. You'll already be standing in it.

What we add is the part the city can't: the candles already lit when you round the corner, the table already set, the two of you already alone.

What couples remember

Not the flowers. The feeling.

  • The moment she realises the path of petals is for her
  • Opening the villa door after a twelve-hour flight to a room that's been waiting
  • Sitting down at a low table on the sand with the sun exactly where it should be
  • Twelve friends walking back from a wine farm into a party they didn't know was there
  • Being the person in London who still managed to be at Mum's birthday in Rondebosch

We've styled many Cape Town moments. These are the ones people write to us about afterwards.

How it happens

You dream it from home. We build it here.

  1. Build your moment

Two minutes below: the moment, your dates, where you're staying, how it should feel.

  2. Shanel designs it

Within four hours, 8am to 10pm Cape Town time, you get the design on WhatsApp: the setting, the timing, the backup for the wind, the decoy if it's a surprise, and what it costs.

  3. You say yes and hold the date

Half by bank transfer from anywhere in the world. The rest a week before.

  4. We talk to your host, not you

Villa manager, Airbnb host or concierge. You never explain a thing to anyone.

  5. You walk into it

Set up before you arrive, cleared after you leave. Photos of the finished scene sent to you.

The rules, handled

We know where the magic is allowed

Cape Town has rules that trip up visitors: no alcohol on City beaches, permits for anything styled on Lion's Head or Signal Hill, nothing after dark in the national park, a wind that can flatten a picnic in minutes. We've worked inside those rules for years. We know the cove that's sheltered on a south-easter day, the terrace that looks straight at Lion's Head, the garden where the real champagne is allowed.

Curious? The honest guide to beach and park rules, and when to come.

We take at most two visitor moments a day. December to February dates go first.

Questions from overseas

Before you book

How much does a proposal setup cost in Cape Town?+
The Sunset Proposal starts from R8,900 (about $540, €480, £405) with everything included: the styled setting, flowers, candles, bubbles, the decoy plan, the weather backup, set-up and clean-up. A photographer for the first hour adds R3,500 (about $215, €190, £160). The Villa Arrival starts from R4,500 (about $275, €245, £205) and the Golden Hour Picnic from R5,900 (about $360, €320, £270).
Can I pay in dollars, euros or pounds?+
We quote in South African rand and you pay by international bank transfer; your bank converts at its rate. The dollar, euro and pound amounts on this page are there so you can budget.
How far ahead should I book?+
Six to eight weeks for December to February, Cape Town's peak. Three to four weeks the rest of the year. We take at most two visitor moments a day, so popular dates go first.
Can you set up at our Airbnb, villa or hotel?+
Villas and Airbnbs, yes: we arrange a set-up window with your host. Hotels vary; some allow outside stylists in rooms and some don't. Tell us the hotel and we'll check before you pay.
What if the weather turns?+
Every outdoor moment has a backup agreed before the day: a sheltered cove, a covered terrace or your villa lounge. We decide together the day before, and moving costs nothing.
Is alcohol allowed on Cape Town beaches?+
No. The City of Cape Town confiscates alcohol on its beaches and fines R500. Beach moments are styled with alcohol-free sparkling wine; the real bottle is waiting at your villa or at a venue that serves it.
Can you keep it a secret from my partner?+
Yes. We only message the person who booked, we plan the decoy with you, and we're gone before your partner arrives.
What's your cancellation policy?+
Cancel 21 days or more before and the deposit is refunded minus R750. Inside 21 days the deposit is kept, but you can move the date once, free, to any date in the next 12 months.
